We've reached a point where managing heat isn't just a technical detail, it's a core business decision. Less energy wasted on fans and air handling means more power devoted to actual compute, all while consuming zero water.  As to the cost, it depends on what you're measuring. Immersion offers significant long-term advantages, though it may require a slightly higher initial investment.  But if you widen the lens to consider the total cost of ownership – including energy, space, service routines, and hardware longevity, that's when immersion proves to be the more efficient and cost effective choice.  Not every rack has to look like it belongs in a hyperscaler's data center, but for HPC and AI organizations pushing the limits of what a traditional rack can do, immersion offers a path to squeeze more out of everything. That includes CPU compute, flash storage, GPU all fit into less space with increased performance, reliability and scalability.  There's also operational simplicity. With immersion, you remove moving parts like fans and unnecessary components. It's quieter, simpler and more reliable – issues usually caused by dust, vibration, or environmental factors.  Hardware refresh cycles and future-proofing  Running hardware cooler and more consistently is extending the lifespan of the servers. In practice, we have gathered more than six years of data resulting in lower failure rates.  Looking ahead, future-proofing is a major consideration. As GPUs and AI accelerators evolve, power densities are only going to increase. Organizations who adopt immersion today aren't just solving current needs, they're buying for the future.  Can different cooling methods coexist?  Absolutely. Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) and immersion cooling can, and likely will, coexist in large-scale AI infrastructure.  Immersion is a strong fit for homogenous, high-density deployments that aim to maximize compute density and deliver stronger long-term ROI.  DLC makes sense for more complex infrastructure such as the Nvidia GB200-300. Managing mixed environments means thinking about how to balance immersion tanks, cold plates, and air cooled legacy gear in the same footprint. We currently support three-year warranties for hardware in immersion, but the broader industry needs to align on this if adoption is going to scale.
