El fabricante español de cápsulas espaciales Orbital Paradigm ha anunciado que transportará cargas útiles para tres clientes en su misión inaugural a finales de 2025. Lo hará el demostrador de cápsula de retorno KID, desarrollado en menos de un año con un presupuesto inferior a un millón de euros y un equipo de nueve personas. Así, transportará cargas útiles de Alatyr (Francia), la Universidad Leibniz de Hannover (Alemania) y un tercer cliente no revelado. La misión de lanzamiento y retorno, apoyada por RIDE! Space, servirá para validar las tecnologías de Kestrel, la futura plataforma de carga reutilizable de Orbital Paradigm. "Contar con clientes de pago en nuestro primer viaje de retorno valida tanto nuestro enfoque técnico como nuestro modelo de negocio", ha declarado Francesco Cacciatore, director ejecutivo, director técnico y cofundador de Orbital Paradigm. "Esta misión representa un paso importante en el camino de Alatyr para desplegar laboratorios robóticos en órbita destinados a la investigación y la producción en microgravedad. Asimismo, marca el comienzo de una colaboración estratégica entre Alatyr y Orbital Paradigm, con vistas al futuro reabastecimiento en órbita de estaciones totalmente robóticas", ha añadido Emeric LHOMME, director ejecutivo de Alatyr. Fundada en 2023 con una financiación inicial de 1,5 millones de euros procedente de Id4, Demium, Pinama, Evercurious y Akka, Orbital Paradigm cuenta actualmente con nueve ingenieros en sus instalaciones de Madrid. La empresa tiene previsto comenzar el desarrollo de su cápsula reutilizable Kestrel tras la misión de finales de 2025. Se espera otra misión comercial intermedia en 2026. Este anuncio se presentó en una rueda de prensa celebrada en La Nave, centro de innovación del Ayuntamiento de Madrid y espacio donde se encuentran las oficinas y laboratorio de Orbital Paradigm. El acto contó con la presencia de representantes del Ministerio de Economía de España, el CDTI y el Ayuntamiento de Madrid, entre otros, lo que refleja el respaldo de los inversores, el apoyo nacional y la colaboración internacional en la misión. "La llegada de Orbital Paradigm a Madrid refuerza el posicionamiento de nuestra ciudad como un polo internacional de innovación y tecnología de vanguardia, además demuestra que Madrid es el lugar idóneo para transformar ideas en soluciones reales que impactan positivamente en la sociedad", ha expresado Ángel Niño, concejal de Innovación y Emprendimiento del Ayuntamiento de Madrid.
